We also offer specialized services for our pediatric patients. We offer treatments even in just the first few weeks of life to set your baby on a path to health and wellness.

CHIROPRATIC

The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic sacral analysis and diversified adjustment. This technique helps pregnant women. The goal of the adjustment is to reduce the effects of sacral subluxation/ SI joint dysfunction. In doing so, neuro-biomechanical function in the pelvis is facilitated. The technique is used to facilitate birth, especially with difficult labor for the mother (i.e., dystocia), caused by inadequate uterine function, pelvic contraction, and baby mal-presentation.

Babies and children benefit from adjustments too. Birth can be a traumatic experience on a newborns body. They are pulled, torqued and twisted which can all affect their alignment of their spine. As children get older and learn how to walk they are falling constantly. Then when they become older, children are active and play sports. All of these things can cause misalignments in their spine.

Chiropractic adjustments have been proven to help increase immune system response. This can help the body to better fight infections, decrease colic, decrease severity of ear infections. Regular adjustments may decrease allergy symptoms decrease growing pain and even help babies to sleep better.

PRENATAL MASSAGE THERAPY

Therapeutic massage has been used for centuries to improve overall health, reduce stress, and relieve muscle tension. Research shows prenatal massage therapy can help reduce anxiety, decrease symptoms of depression, relieve muscle aches and joint pains, and improve labor outcomes and newborn health. Prenatal massage therapy addresses different needs through varying techniques, one of which is called Swedish Massage.

Swedish Massage aims to relax muscle tension and improve lymphatic and blood circulation through mild pressure applied to the muscle groups of the body. Swedish Massage is the recommended massage method during pregnancy because it addresses many common discomforts associated with the skeletal and circulatory changes brought on by hormone shifts.

PHYSICAL THERAPY

Physical therapy should be a standard of care both during and after pregnancy. For example, in France every new mom is automatically referred to physical therapy for a few visits preventively before and after she delivers a baby.

At Legacy, our physical therapists are trained to assist in the specific musculoskeletal needs of a patient during pregnancy and after the arrival of a new baby. When designing a treatment and exercise program for each patient, we closely follow the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology guidelines for exercise during and after pregnancy. Our practice focuses on both preventive care as well as specialized rehabilitation in the event of pre/postpartum musculoskeletal problems. We can address new problems that arise during the physical and psychological stress the body is under and/or help patients who have existing dysfunction that is exacerbated during pregnancy.

EXERCISE

We offer Yoga and Boot Camp Classes customized for pregnant women. Contact us for our current course offerings.
